Calculating the Cooling Capability for Your Equipment
Accurately calculating the cooling capability for your equipment is crucial for selecting the right cooling tower. This guide provides a simple formula for calculating heat rejection capacity and tips for choosing the appropriate cooling tower.
Simple Formula for Heat Rejection Capacity Calculation
Cooling tower suppliers need to consider several factors, including wet bulb temperature, circulating water rate, and inlet and outlet water temperatures, to determine the cooling tower's design conditions. Understanding these factors is essential to meet customer requirements. Typically, customers must determine the quantity and heat requirement for their equipment and then select the appropriate cooling tower. The formula is as follows
Where :
- T1: Inlet water temperature to equipment (℃ or ℉)
- T2: Outlet water temperature from equipment (℃ or ℉)
- m: Water flow rate (L/min))
- Q: Heat rejection produced by equipment (Kcal/h)
Using this formula, you can determine the demand for heat dissipation in production equipment.
Example : Calculation of Heat Rejection Capacity
- Water-Cooled Chiller
- T1: 33℃
- T2: 38℃
- m: 6000 L/h
- Heat Rejection Capacity:
- Q=(38−33)×6000=30,000 Kcal/h
- Oil Temperature Heat Exchanger for Blow Molding Machine
- T1: 33℃
- T2: 36℃
- m: 6000 L/h
- Heat Rejection Capacity:
- Q=(36−33)×6000=18,000 Kcal/h
Total Heat Rejection Capacity : 30,000+18,000=48,000 Kcal/h
Three Ways to Choose a Cooling Tower:
- Cooling Tower Comparison : Use a comparison list to match the heat rejection capacity required for your equipment.
- Provide Detailed Information : Customers should provide local wet bulb temperature, circulating water flow rate, and inlet and outlet water temperatures to suppliers for accurate selection.
- Consider Additional Factors : Suppliers should consider water quality, limescale, and climate conditions, which may affect cooling capacity. The chosen cooling capacity should exceed the customer’s specific requirements to ensure stable equipment cooling.
