Comparison Between a General Cooling System and a Closed Cooling System

Share:

Design of Closed Circuit Cooling Tower

The primary function of a closed-circuit cooling tower is to prevent external impurities from entering the cooling pipes, ensuring that the cooling water remains clean and maintains a stable temperature. The system is divided into an internal circuit system and an external circuit system by a heat exchanger.

Internal Circuit System

  • Purpose : Provides clean cooling water for equipment.
  • Operation : Uses a closed cooling loop to isolate impurities.
  • Components : Includes an internal circulation pump and heat exchanger.

External Circuit System

  • Purpose : Indirectly cools the internal circuit system.
  • Operation : Utilizes an external circulating pump to spray water onto the heat exchanger, facilitating heat exchange.
  • Components : Comprises the cooling tower body and an external circulating pump.

This design effectively addresses limescale problems caused by high mineral concentrations during the cooling process. The heat exchanger's interior is constructed with metal tubes, which are sprayed with water for indirect cooling, ensuring no dirt enters the facility and preventing limescale formation.

Comparison Between Cooling Systems

Closed Circuit Cooling Tower vs. Open Tower :

Aspect Closed Circuit Cooling Tower Open Tower
Limescale Deposition No limescale deposits Limescale blocks heat exchanger, mold, and injection molding nozzles
Maintenance Cost Only need to clean one cooling tower Requires cleaning of ten pieces of equipment and the cooling tower
Electrical Power Consumption Lower Higher due to greater water consumption
Water Consumption Lower cooling water usage Higher, requires large amounts of makeup water
Operating Cost Lower operating cost Higher operating cost
Cooling Water Quality Not polluted Easily polluted

Benefits of Using a Closed Circuit Cooling Tower

  • Prevents Limescale Deposits : Avoids calcium carbonate and SiO₂ deposits on the tube walls and heat exchangers.

  • Reduces Maintenance Costs : Eliminates the need to clean individual equipment, reducing power and fuel expenses.

  • Maintains Cooling Efficiency : Prevents overheating, oil leakage, and maintains optimal cooling temperatures.

  • Improves Water Quality : Maintains proper pH value and heat conduction rate without acid washing, which can damage pipes.

  • Reduces Water Consumption : The closed-circuit design minimizes water splashing and decreases overall water costs.
