A Persistent Challenge for Leading Foundry CHWAN YU Enterprise
Project Overview
- Collaboration Year: 2023
- Client: CHWAN YU Enterprise Co., Ltd., Taiwan
- Installation Location: Longjing, Taichung, Taiwan
- Industry: Foundry
- Main Products: Cast iron bars, graphite cast iron
- Equipment Use: Cooling for all on-site equipment
- Model Used: Easy-Maintenance SCT-60 × 5 units (Closed-Circuit Cooling Towers)
Project Introduction
CHWAN YU, a well-known foundry in Taichung, had long been limited by traditional FRP open cooling towers. Equipment frequently clogged, scaling was severe, and electric furnaces often tripped, affecting production efficiency. After installing five **Linkcooling SCT-60 closed-circuit cooling towers**, cooling efficiency improved significantly, downtime was reduced, and the multi-unit parallel design met future capacity expansion needs. **Linkcooling** also provides regular maintenance services, ensuring safe operation and truly achieving high-efficiency cooling and sustainable production!
Key Issue Diagnosis
- Electric furnaces frequently trip, cooling efficiency unstable
- High maintenance costs using traditional FRP open cooling towers
- Scaling causes plate heat exchanger blockages
Previously, CHWAN YU used traditional FRP open cooling towers, facing long-term issues with water impurities and calcium carbonate scaling. This caused frequent blockages in plate heat exchangers, reducing equipment performance and leading to multiple furnace shutdowns, directly impacting delivery schedules and production stability. Emergency repairs consumed significant labor and time, resulting in high operational costs.
Solutions
The **Linkcooling** technical team assessed the on-site operations and recommended replacing the traditional open system with SCT-series closed-circuit cooling towers. The first phase installed five SCT-60 units, featuring:
- Full SUS304 stainless steel construction for corrosion resistance and long lifespan
- Closed-circuit design effectively isolates external contaminants and prevents scaling
- Bidirectional air intake + modular parallel design to enhance cooling efficiency and allow flexible expansion
- Built-in electronic descaling and proprietary water distribution technology to reduce energy consumption and maintenance frequency
Why Choose Linkcooling
CHWAN YU primarily produces spheroidal graphite cast iron industrial components, customized to customer specifications. Factory-wide cooling efficiency had always been a concern. Previously, due to cost and efficiency considerations, they used traditional FRP open cooling towers but faced tremendous annual labor for cleaning and plate replacement, and frequent emergency shutdowns of electric furnaces.
When the company’s furnaces repeatedly tripped and could not operate, our team assisted on-site by cleaning heat exchangers, allowing high-frequency machines to temporarily run and resolve urgent production orders.
However, these temporary fixes could not fundamentally solve the problem. Through **Linkcooling** professionals’ explanation, the client understood the impact of the foundry environment and scaling on furnace operation, which would continue over time. After evaluation, they decided to purchase **Linkcooling’s first set of closed-circuit cooling tower equipment**.
After-Sales Service & Maintenance
After using the system for a period, the client experienced the stability of the closed-circuit cooling towers. Considering that the SCT series allows parallel operation to adjust cooling efficiency and expand to the entire plant, they purchased additional units to meet the growing production demand.
Additionally, **Linkcooling** provides regular maintenance for SCT closed-circuit cooling towers, including cleaning heat exchangers and cooling fins. This prevents waiting for equipment failures or production line stoppages, saving significant time and enabling maximum production efficiency.
Project Outcomes
After the SCT series cooling towers were deployed, CHWAN YU clearly experienced dual improvements in performance and stability on the production side:
-
Significant reduction in electric furnace trips
Stable water quality in the cooling system improved furnace temperature control, solving previous repetitive shutdown issues and effectively supporting urgent orders and stable scheduling.
-
Substantial reduction in maintenance costs
The closed-circuit system reduces external contamination and scaling, eliminating frequent heat exchanger replacements and cooling tower cleaning, saving labor and material costs.
-
Improved production line stability and yield
Stable cooling temperatures help maintain casting quality consistency and reduce defects caused by overheating.
-
High expansion flexibility, supporting entire-plant cooling needs
Based on initial results, the client purchased additional SCT units in a modular parallel configuration to expand cooling coverage and enhance future production capacity adaptability.
-
Established long-term maintenance cooperation
**Linkcooling** provides regular maintenance and technical support, keeping equipment in optimal condition and allowing the client to focus on production without concerns.
